Japan won't win the World Cup after falling 3-2 to Belgium on Monday in the most heartbreaking fashion, but the squad and its many supporters won't leave Russia as losers.

The Japanese delegation showed class of the highest order after the game, with players leaving a "thank you" note in the locker room for tournament organizers and fans staying to help clean up the stadium.

Headlines about Japanese fans' custom of cleaning up make the rounds every World Cup.

Still, there's something remarkable about seeing them do it after a loss as brutal as Tuesday's.

Some fans even appeared to fight back tears as they cleaned.

Good on you, Japan.
