Chile has appointed former Colombia, Ecuador, and Honduras national team manager Reinaldo Rueda as La Roja's new boss.

The Chilean Football Federation announced Rueda's signing Monday. The 60-year-old put pen to paper on a contract that will be valid through qualifications for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Rueda last managed Rio de Janeiro giant Flamengo, and his previous club tenures include Colombians Atletico Nacional, Medellin, and Deportivo Cali. Rueda stepped down from his position with Flamengo to take the Chile gig and was replaced by former Brazilian international Paulo Cesar Carpegiani.

Chile failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup after slumping to a sixth-place finish in CONMEBOL following a matchday 18 defeat to Brazil in Sao Paulo. Reuda succeeds Juan Antonio Pizzi, who resigned following the result in Brazil.

La Roja's next scheduled match is a friendly against Sweden in Solna on March 24 followed four days later by a visit to Denmark.
