Report: Canadian athlete arrested for drunk driving, stealing car in PyeongChang
A member of Team Canada is making news for the wrong reasons, as Gangwon police told Susan Ormiston of CBC that a Canadian athlete and manager were arrested and released for stealing a car and driving drunk in PyeongChang.
Police wouldn't name the athlete, but did say that he was with his wife as well as his manager. According to police, the group got into an idling car and drove to the athletes village, and tests showed their blood alcohol level was 0.16.
The Canadian Olympic Committee acknowledged the incident but didn't offer any specifics on the matter.
"We can confirm that an incident occurred," COC chief Chris Overholt said, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. "... Until we know the results of the investigation, we're not going to be able to provide further information."
