What you need to know

Can anyone unseat Virtue and Moir in ice dancing?

Canadian favorites Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir turned in a record-breaking performance in the short dance, but three U.S. duos cracked the top seven. Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue sit third heading into the free dance, with just a 0.02-point advantage over the American sibling team of Maia and Alex Shibutani.

Update: No. No one can unseat Virtue and Moir. (Shibutani siblings won bronze)

Stacked U.S. ski halfpipe team defends Sochi golds

Three U.S. skiers - Brita Sigourney, Annalisa Drew, and Maddie Bowman - qualified with top-six scores in the women's ski halfpipe. Bowman won gold in the event at Sochi with a score of 89.00, which was topped a total of six times by three different skiers in the PyeongChang qualification round.

Update: Canada's Cassie Sharpe wins gold as Sigourney comes away with bronze

The men's halfpipe qualifiers kick off after the women's final. Four of the favorites hail from the USA: 2014 gold medalist David Wise, Alex Ferreira, Aaron Blunck, and Birk Irving.

Slovakia gets chance at revenge in men's hockey playoffs

Despite a 1-2 record in the round robin, the U.S. men's hockey team's medal hopes aren't dead yet. The team will square off against Slovakia, the only country to lose to the U.S. so far, in the playoff qualification round. Harvard forward Ryan Donato potted two goals in the first matchup. He and the other NCAA players will need to step up again to get their squad into the quarterfinals.

Update: The United States earned a 5-1 win over Slovakia, booking a spot in the quarterfinals.
