Girard triumphs with short track gold

Sam Girard capped Day 8 with Canada's fifth gold medal of PyeongChang 2018. The 21-year-old beat the field in the 1,000-meter short track speedskating final for Canada's first ever Olympic gold medal in the event, and the country's first 1,000m short track medal of any kind since 2002.

Boutin claims 2nd short track bronze

Kim Boutin added to her PyeongChang 2018 medal haul, placing third in the 1,500m short track speedskating final. The Sherbrooke, Quebec native had received death threats earlier in the week after winning her first bronze medal as the result of South Korean Choi Min-jeong's disqualification in the 500m final.

Czech Republic upsets Canada in shootout

Mason Raymond and Rene Bourque scored a goal apiece but the Czech Republic ultimately prevailed in the shootout, ending Canada's 11-game winning streak. Czech netminder Pavel Francouz did his job for the winning side, tallying 31 saves and holding the Canadians at bay in the shootout.

Canada drops to 1-0-1 in group play. They'll wrap up this stage against hosts South Korea at 7:10 a.m. ET Sunday morning. (Read more)

Canada's men's curlers drop first loss of round-robin play

Canada's men were dealt their first loss of the tournament, falling 5-2 to a tough Swedish rink. After jumping to a 2-0 lead in the second end, Canada simply couldn't maintain their momentum, watching their opponent score five unanswered points.

Sweden's skip (and flag bearer) Niklas Edin was completely dialed in, shooting a flawless 100 percent in the game. (Read more)

Semifinal matchups set in women's hockey

Canada's women's hockey team now knows who it will face in the semifinals at 7:10 a.m. ET Monday morning, as the Olympic Athletes from Russia beat Switzerland 6-2 in its quarterfinal. Canada earned a 5-0 victory over the OAR to begin group play last week.

On the other side of the bracket, Team USA is set to face Finland, who beat Sweden 7-2 early Saturday morning. The Americans took down the Finns 3-1 to start their own group-stage slate. (Read more)

Snowboarder Ladecka shocks world with super-G gold

The Czech Republic's Ester Ledecka was the name behind one of the definitive moments of the games so far, winning Olympic gold in the women's super-G despite snowboarding being her primary discipline. It was a result no one saw coming.

In fact, Ledecka's stunning win birthed a minor mystery, as conflicting reports began to circulate that the skis worn on her gold-medal run belonged to none other than American downhill queen Mikaela Shiffrin, who had withdrawn from competing in super-G. (Read more)
