Jones confident Homan's rink can bounce back from 0-3 start

Jennifer Jones, one of Canada's most heralded and respected curlers of all time, believes Rachel Homan has what it takes to climb out of the current rut she and her team find themselves in after dropping a third straight loss to open the tournament.

"Very uncharacteristic," Jones told CBC's Scott Russell when asked about Homan's start. "They're the reigning world champions and one of the best teams to ever play, and so I do expect that they're going to bounce back, and if anybody can get on a roll it's going to be them."

Homan's rink is fresh off a shocking 8-7 loss in 11 ends to Denmark after holding 6-3 and 8-6 leads during the match. The skip was also at the center of a little controversy. In the fifth end, Homan opted to remove a burned stone; a decision that caught the ire of CBC broadcaster Joan McCusker, who felt it was done in poor taste.

Jones, who went undefeated en route to a gold medal at Sochi 2014, is confident Homan and her team can overcome their early struggles, win out, and avoid becoming the first Canadian team to miss the playoffs since curling was introduced in 1998.

"If you're gonna lose three games, you might as well do it at the beginning," Jones said. "Now they can just get on a roll, win a bunch of games, get some momentum, get into the playoffs, and do what they do best, which is play great."

Canada will look to avoid falling to 0-4 against the United States at 6:05 a.m. ET on Saturday.
