For the first time in history, Nigeria will be represented at the Winter Olympics.

The Nigerian women's bobsled team qualified for the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang after completing the fifth of their five required qualifying races Wednesday, according to Colin Udoh of KweseESPN.com. Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere, and Akuoma Omeoga are the first African bobsled team, women's or men's, to secure a spot at the Olympics.

"This is a huge milestone for sports in Nigeria," Adigun said. "Nothing makes me prouder than to know that I can play a small role in creating opportunities for winter sports to take place in Nigeria.

"Our objective now is to be the best representation of Africa that the Winter Olympics have ever witnessed."
