Seattle Storm superstar Breanna Stewart and wife Marta Xargay announced the birth of their first child, Ruby Mae, on Monday.

The couple - who were engaged in May and quietly married in July, according to The New York Times' Kurt Streeter - officially welcomed their daughter into the world via surrogate Aug. 9, one day after Stewart and the U.S. women's national team captured the gold medal in Tokyo against host Japan.

"Ruby's arrival has been the best part of 2021 and easily one of the best moments of my life," Stewart told People's Benjamin VanHoose. "Becoming a mom is bigger than anything else that I've done, and I look forward to every beautiful and challenging moment as a family of three."

A two-time WNBA champion and one-time league MVP, the 26-year-old Stewart had her eggs frozen in 2018.

Xargay played in the WNBA from 2015-16 with the Phoenix Mercury and most recently played for Uni Girona CB in her native Spain. She and Stewart played together on Russian powerhouse WBC Dynamo Kursk during the 2018-19 overseas season.
