Top draft pick Ayton buys 300 tickets to Phoenix Mercury playoff game
Phoenix Suns rookie Deandre Ayton is a fan of the WNBA, and he was willing to back up the Brinks truck to spread the love. The No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft showed his appreciation for the Suns' sister franchise by purchasing a block of 300 tickets to the Phoenix Mercury's first-round single-elimination game versus the visiting Dallas Wings.
Ayton has previously talked about his brush with Mercury legend - and all-time WNBA scoring leader - Diana Taurasi.
Taurasi, a three-time WNBA champion, was drafted into the league when Ayton was just six years old. Today, the 36-year-old first-ballot Hall of Famer is fresh off a regular season in which she ranked third in the league with 20.7 points per game. Her path to title No. 4 will begin in earnest Tuesday with Ayton's 300-strong army cheering them on.
