Canada's head coach Dave Cameron didn't have an update on Schaefer's status after the contest.
Schaefer recorded a goal and an assist in Canada's 4-0 win versus Finland on Thursday. He played 20:26 in his world junior debut.
The 17-year-old is a candidate to go first overall in the 2025 NHL Draft. Schaefer has seven goals and 22 points in 17 games with the OHL's Erie Otters this season. He's won gold with Canada at the Under-17 World Challenge, Under-18s, and Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
