Hughes, the 2021 fourth overall pick and brother of NHLers Jack and Quinn, is back on the team after representing his country at the World Championship in May. Cooley is also returning after the Arizona Coyotes chose him third overall in July.

Jake Sanderson, a top Ottawa Senators prospect, and Matty Beniers, the Seattle Kraken's second overall pick in last year's draft, won't be wearing the red, white, and blue this time around after doing so in December. Frank Nazar and Aiden Hreschuk were the final two cuts for the August edition.

USA Hockey named Faber captain Friday while tabbing Bordeleau and Slaggert as the alternates. Berard, Slaggert, Faber, and Kleven were all on the junior side in 2021.

Since 2013, either Canada, the United States, or Finland has claimed the gold medal. The U.S. has won it five times and medaled 13 times in total.

Russia will not be competing as part of IIHF sanctions against the country for its invasion of Ukraine.

The tournament will run from Aug. 9-20.
