Ottawa Senators prospect and London Knights forward Alex Formenton will be unavailable for the world juniors due to a knee injury, national team director Shawn Bullock confirmed to The Canadian Press on Friday.
Formenton was injured in Canada's tune-up game Wednesday:
The Senators' second-round pick in 2017 was expected to be a key contributor to Canada's forward group and was set to be one of the returnees from last year's gold medal squad.
The 19-year-old had a nine-game NHL stint with Ottawa to start the season and has recorded 16 points in 13 games with London since being reassigned to the OHL.
