Chile's and Colombia's World Cup dream ended Tuesday night, as Peru won its last CONMEBOL qualifier to seal a place in the intercontinental playoff.

With the four automatic qualifying spots in CONMEBOL already spoken for heading into Matchday 18, Peru won the three-team race for fifth place with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Paraguay.

Gianluca Lapadula's opening goal in the fifth minute eased the pressure on the hosts before Yoshimar Yotun doubled Peru's lead moments before halftime.

The result left Chile and Colombia with no chance of qualifying since they needed Peru to drop points to have any hope.

Colombia won its final match against last-place Venezuela to finish sixth, while Chile dropped down to seventh with a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

Peru - unbeaten in six of its last qualifying contests - will aim to reach its second World Cup in a row when it takes on either Australia or the United Arab Emirates in Qatar on June 13 or 14.
