Gone are the days when Luis Fabiano wore Brazil's No. 9, but, at 36 years of age, the centre-forward is still making an impact on Brazilian football.

In the 54th minute of Sunday's game between Vasco da Gama and Flamengo in the Campeonato Carioca, Luis Fabiano received his marching orders after approaching the referee, who appeared to embellish any contact there might have been.

Luis Fabiano, who joined Vasco in February and is yet to tally a goal for the Gigante, said after the match that the referee had exchanged some words with him on the pitch, declaring: "He told me things in the game that we can't talk about right now. With Luis Fabiano, the interpretation is always different."
