Former UConn guard Mikayla Coombs transfers to Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Mikayla Coombs, a guard who was the 2017 Georgia high school player of the year, is transferring from UConn to Georgia.
Coombs will have two years of eligibility at Georgia and is applying for a waiver for immediate eligibility without sitting out a year.
The 5-foot-10 Coombs was a backup at UConn. Her plan to transfer was announced by the school last month.
Georgia coach Joni Taylor said in a statement released by the school on Monday Coombs is ''the complete package'' and ''an explosive play-maker.''
Coombs earned 2017 Naismith and WBCA high school All-America honors at Wesleyan School near Atlanta before signing with UConn. She averaged 0.9 points and 11.5 minutes last season.
