Lesnar survives grueling Fatal 4-Way at SummerSlam, retains Universal title

Brock Lesnar was pushed to his physical limits Sunday night at WWE SummerSlam, yet even against seemingly insurmountable odds, "The Beast Incarnate" managed to retain his Universal Championship.

Facing the trio of Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, and Samoa Joe in a main event where he didn't have to be involved in the decision to lose his belt, Lesnar survived perhaps the most physically demanding match of his wrestling career. His body was put through the ringer at Barclays Center, as with no count-outs or disqualifications in this format the four juggernauts laid into each other like nobody's business.

At one point, it appeared Lesnar would be removed from the bout entirely after he took a powerslam from Strowman through multiple announce tables, and even had the remnants of one tossed onto him.

The incident resulted in medics stretchering Lesnar to the backstage area.

Lesnar wasn't gone for long, though, coming back down the entrance ramp and making a beeline for "The Monster Among Men," tackling him and delivering a number of hammer fists.

The match nearly concluded when Lesnar drilled Joe with an F5, only for Reigns to break up the count at the last possible moment.

Reigns squared up the former UFC heavyweight champion and connected with a series of Superman punches. He was then caught by Lesnar after looking to finish him off with a spear, instead being driven hard into the mat with an F5 that allowed the champion to retain his gold.
