Another playoff game, another upset.

Shortly after expansion side Nashville SC ousted perennial contender Toronto FC from the MLS playoffs, the New England Revolution conjured up some magic of their own, shutting out Supporters' Shield winners Philadelphia Union on Tuesday to reach the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Adam Buksa and Tajon Buchanan scored in quick succession in the first half to lead the eighth-seeded Revs to a 2-0 victory and deal the Union their only home defeat of the season.

New England will now face Orlando City SC on Sunday.

Incidentally, the Union beat the Revs on the final day of the regular season by the same score to finish with the best record in MLS. That win - one of four against New England in 2020 - gave Jim Curtin's side home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Philadelphia had won all nine of its games at home during the regular season, scoring 24 times and conceding just four goals at Subaru Park, but it never seemed up to the task Tuesday.

Buksa headed home the opener in the 26th minute when he rose first to Carles Gil's perfect delivery, and Canadian forward Buchanan danced his way into the penalty area four minutes later to cement the result.
