Report: Juventus' Matuidi to join MLS club Inter Miami

Blaise Matuidi will join Inter Miami after David Beckham's Major League Soccer franchise reached an agreement to sign the French midfielder from Juventus, reports Fabrizio Romano of The Guardian.

The Italian club will not receive a transfer fee for the World Cup winner, according to Romeo Agresti of Goal, noting that Juventus are just looking to get Matuidi's salary off the books.

New manager Andrea Pirlo is looking to rejuvenate an aging squad, with the midfield a particular area of focus. Several others are expected to join the 33-year-old Matuidi in leaving the Serie A champions this summer.

Sources told Julien Laurens of ESPN that Matuidi is taking a pay cut to reunite with Beckham, his former Paris Saint-Germain teammate. He expects to sign a three-year deal with the club, which is still searching for its first win during its inaugural MLS campaign.

The decorated Frenchman made 35 league appearances for Juve this past season, also featuring in five Champions League encounters. He won three consecutive Serie A titles after joining the Bianconeri from PSG in 2017.

A tireless, intelligent midfielder, Matuidi will provide tactical flexibility for Inter Miami manager Diego Alonso. His work-rate should benefit creative spark plug Rodolfo Pizarro, too, freeing the Mexican of some defensive duties while Matuidi provides a steady, consistent presence behind him.
