Campeones Cup date between Toronto FC, Tigres set for Sept. 19

Toronto FC's BMO Field will host the inaugural Campeones Cup on September 19 as last season's MLS champion faces Mexican titan Tigres.

TFC's record-breaking season last term, in which the club won the MLS Supporters' Shield race by 12 points and then doubled down with an MLS Cup triumph, pits it against Tigres, which won the Liga MX champion decider Campeon de Campeones 4-0 against Santos Laguna this week.

These two sides are familiar with each other now, of course, having met in the quarter-final of the CONCACAF Champions League in March. The Reds won that tie on away goals after a 4-4 aggregate draw.

By the time TFC faces Tigres this time around, it will have just six games remaining on its 2018 MLS regular season.
