The inaugural edition of the CONCACAF Nations League Finals is suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, the confederation confirmed Friday.

The news follows advice from FIFA's dedicated COVID-19 working group to postpone all men's and women's international matches in June 2020. Friday's group meeting via conference call was accompanied by a statement on FIFA's website that said: "Health must always be the first priority and the main criteria in any decision-making process, especially in these challenging times."

The CONCACAF Nations League semifinals were scheduled at two separate venues in the Houston area June 4, with the United States men's national team taking on Honduras and Mexico locking horns with Costa Rica. The competition was then set to conclude in Dallas, where both the third-place playoff and final would be held June 7.

"The event ... will be rescheduled to take place at a later date in venues to be determined," CONCACAF's statement read. "This will be confirmed following further discussions with FIFA regarding the remaining international windows in the football calendar, and will obviously be subject to public health authorities deeming it safe for professional sports events to resume."

The postponements in the CONCACAF region also mean alternative dates are being explored for the Road to Gold Cup qualification matches and the Flow Caribbean Club Championship.
