England call up teenage midfielder Parkinson for Women's World Cup qualifiers

Teenage midfielder Erica Meg Parkinson was included in the England squad announced Tuesday for April's Women's World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Iceland.

Singapore-born Parkinson, 17, who plays her domestic football for Portuguese first division side Valadares Gaia, will be part of Sarina Wiegman's senior squad for the first time, having risen through the youth ranks.

Parkinson was included in the Under-23 squad for fixtures against Norway and the United States last year and has now been promoted by England manager Wiegman.

Arsenal forward Beth Mead returns to a 23-strong squad after she missed the most recent internationals with a hairline fracture in her shin.

Manchester City captain Alex Greenwood also missed the wins over Ukraine and Iceland due to injury but has recovered and is back in the squad.

However, Aggie Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton and Ella Toone miss out due to injury.

The Lionesses face world champions Spain at Wembley on Tuesday, April 14, before travelling to Reykjavik to play Iceland four days later.

The meeting with Spain will be the first between the nations since the Euro 2025 final, which saw Wiegman's side become back-to-back European champions.

Spain were also the team that beat England in the 2023 World Cup final in Sydney.

The 2027 Women's World Cup finals are due to take place in Brazil from June 24 to July 25.
