Hegerberg, Putellas benched in women's Champions League final
Ballon d'Or winners Alexia Putellas and Ada Hegerberg start on the bench in the women's Champions League final for holders Barcelona and record eight-time champions Lyon respectively.
Norwegian forward Hegerberg, the all-time top goalscorer in the competition with 64 goals, has not found top form after injury.
Lyon coach Sonia Bompastor selected Haitian Melchie Dumornay in her place in Bilbao, flanked by this edition's top scorer Kadidiatou Diani, with eight goals, and Delphine Cascarino.
Defender Griedge Mbock Bathy is also on the bench at the San Mames after injury, with Vanessa Gilles pairing veteran skipper Wendie Renard at the heart of defence.
Lyon's set-up yielded no surprises, as they bid for a third final victory over Barcelona, as in 2019 and 2022, and a fifth win in five meetings.
Barcelona coach Jonatan Giraldez, seeking to defend holders Barcelona's trophy and secure a quadruple, opted for Fridolina Rolfo at left-back, benching Ona Batlle and starting Mariona Caldentey on the left wing.
Rolfo, whose goal earned Barcelona a comeback victory over Wolfsburg in last year's final, started as a winger against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the semi-final second leg.
Two-time Ballon d'Or winner Putellas has often sat on the bench this season, with Aitana Bonmati taking the reins of the side in midfield.
Putellas is joined by Mapi Leon, who has not played since December after suffering a knee injury, with Barcelona seeking a third triumph in the competition.
