Ajax youth player Abdelhak Nouri is in stable condition and has been flown to hospital after suffering a cardiac arrhythmia during a pre-season friendly against Werder Bremen in Austria. He received medical attention in the middle of the match after collapsing in the 72nd minute.

The 20-year-old midfielder bent over and collapsed without contact and was immediately attended to by medical staff, with an ambulance dispatched onto the field and the match halted. After around half an hour of treatment, a trauma helicopter airlifted Nouri for further medical attention, with the Dutch club confirming a heart issue caused the collapse.

Nouri, capped for the Netherlands from the Under-19 team down, was given the Player of the Season award for the 2016-17 Jupiler League after a strong season with Jong Ajax, the club's fabled youth team. He also has nine appearances in the Dutch top flight with Ajax's senior ranks.

Following the incident, the match was abandoned.
