History

Regarded as the crown jewel of Formula 1, the Monaco Grand Prix is a 3.4 km circuit that has been around since 1929. The circuit provides a breathtaking view of the Monaco streets and harbor but is among the most challenging drives in F1 due to its tight layout.

Where legends are made

Winning the Monaco Grand Prix immortalizes your career in racing history. No driver mastered the street circuit quite like Ayrton Senna, who won a record six times. Other legends like Graham Hill and Michael Schumacher have taken five victories each.

Qualifying

Pole position means everything at Monaco. In fact, it likely will determine the race winner. Overtaking at the circuit is a near impossible task, meaning drivers are guaranteed to leave it all on the line during Saturday's qualifying shootout.

The contenders

The title fight rages on at Monaco. Max Verstappen will be looking to build on his newly established championship lead while hometown hero Charles Leclerc aims to bounce back after a DNF in Spain. Don't count out Mercedes, either.

All eyes on Leclerc

Will 2022 be the year Leclerc breaks the Monaco curse? The Monegasque driver has never finished a race at his home circuit dating back to his time in Formula 2. Making matters worse, he enters the weekend trailing Verstappen in the driver standings for the first time this season.

Super Max

If he finishes the race, he wins. That's been the story of Verstappen's season. The reigning world champion is in red-hot form after ripping off three straight victories. He's no stranger to the streets of Monaco either, taking the top step of the podium at last year's race.

Can Mercedes surprise?

Mercedes is back on track after making major strides in Spain. George Russell is only getting better and has secured podiums in two of his last four races while Lewis Hamilton displayed blistering race pace in Barcelona. Plus, the seven-time world champion leads all active drivers with three Monaco wins.
