Cale Makar

Makar is the definition of an instant-impact player. He made his first appearance for the Avs in the 2019 postseason and became the first defenseman to score a playoff goal in his NHL debut. Makar went on to stun as a rookie, putting up 50 points in 57 games and winning the Calder.

Matt Murray

Murray is the only goalie to win the Stanley Cup twice as a rookie. He didn't play enough games to lose the rookie tag before capturing his first Cup in 2016. Murray played in 32 playoff contests while boasting a .928 save percentage in Pittsburgh's back-to-back runs.

Sidney Crosby

Though Ovechkin slightly overshadowed him, Crosby was incredible in Year 1. He and Ovechkin are the only rookies in the 2000s to surpass 100 points in their first year so far. The 2005-06 season came with an embarrassment of riches.

Alex Ovechkin

That kid from Russia is pretty good, huh? Ovechkin took the NHL by storm from the jump after potting two goals in his debut. He was awarded the Calder Trophy after finishing among the top three in league scoring as a rookie.
