Juventus reportedly rejected Arsenal's attempt to sign central defender Daniele Rugani ahead of next Thursday's transfer deadline.

The Gunners proposed a two-year loan for Rugani with a club option to buy but were turned down, Goal correspondents Romeo Agresti and Charles Watts report.

Rugani, 25, has failed to find regular first-team minutes with the Old Lady since returning from a loan spell at Empoli, with whom the seven-time-capped Italy international was managed by new Juventus gaffer Maurizio Sarri.

Juventus are apparently reluctant to let Rugani leave even with Matthijs de Ligt's €75-million move to Turin in the summer. The Dutchman's addition gives Sarri five central defenders to work with, though fitness worries for veteran Giorgio Chiellini are tethered to the club's resistance in letting Rugani walk.

Arsenal's search for defensive reinforcements has also led to failed approaches for Celtic's Kieran Tierney. The Gunners are expected to table a third offer for the left-back, with the Scottish League holders slapping a £25-million price tag on the defender's head contingent on a favorable payment structure.
