Roma are on the verge of making their 12th signing of the summer.

The Giallorossi have entered the final stage of negotiations for Sevilla midfielder and World Cup winner Steven Nzonzi, according to Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, with a deal likely to cost the capital club €30 million plus bonuses.

The fee would represent a significant discount on Nzonzi's €40-million release clause. It helps that Roma's director of football, Monchi, has an excellent working relationship with Sevilla, having worked at the club in a sporting capacity for nearly two decades.

Sevilla's current sporting director, Joaquin Caparros, confirmed in a recent interview that Nzonzi had expressed a desire to leave the club. He didn't feature in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup.

Nzonzi has made significant strides since his time in the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, evolving into a responsible defensive midfielder with the ability to kick-start plays. His improved form over the past two seasons reportedly captured the attention of Juventus, but it's Roma who have ultimately made the move to sign the 29-year-old.

Nzonzi, who won the World Cup with France last month, would likely supplant Daniele De Rossi at the base of Eusebio Di Francesco's three-man midfield.
