Nebraska has parted ways with head coach Tim Miles after seven seasons with the program, the school announced Tuesday.

Athletic director Bill Moos previously said he would wait until the end of the season before he made a decision about Miles' future.

"Tim Miles is a good basketball coach who has put his heart, soul, and energy into the Nebraska men's basketball program over the past seven years," Moos said in a statement. "Ultimately, we have not maintained a level of consistent success and stability on the court, and after a full review I have made the decision to move in another direction for the leadership of our program."

Miles finishes with a 116-114 record and led the Cornhuskers to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014, which was their first since 1998.

"Thank you to the University of Nebraska for a remarkable journey," Miles said in a statement. "It was a great honor to represent this university the past seven years. I am extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish during my tenure, most notably developing relationships with so many fantastic people associated with the Huskers.

"A special thank you and deep gratitude to our players and parents who have been with us and supported us over the years. Thanks to our coaches, legends, alumni and to all of the support staff who interact with our program on a daily basis and made the experience one I will always cherish."

Nebraska will now search for its fourth head coach since 2011. Fred Hoiberg is reportedly expected to be the front-runner for the vacancy.

The former Chicago Bulls head coach feels like the job "just fits him," said a source close to Hoiberg, according to Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

The Cornhuskers were 6-14 in Big Ten play this season and 19-17 overall. Nebraska's season ended after an 88-72 loss to TCU in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.
