Former Louisville head coach Rick Pitino has agreed to a deal to become head coach of Greek club Panathinaikos for the remainder of the season, his agent told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Pitino reportedly remains intent on making an eventual return to the NBA.

The Hall of Fame coach will replace Xavi Pascual, who is expected to be let go by the Greek powerhouse after losing four of their last five games, including an 89-68 blowout loss to defending champions Real Madrid.

Pitino was fired from Lousiville in 2017 after an FBI probe found evidence of payments to former recruit Brian Bowen's family. This will be his first crack at coaching since.

Pitino ran one of the most successful programs in college basketball, leading the Cardinals to a 416-143 record and a national championship in 2013.

Former Florida standout Nick Calathes and Giannis Antetokounmpo's older brother, Thanasis, are among the notable players for Panathinaikos.
