Buccaneers' Fitzpatrick to start at QB vs. Panthers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter confirmed Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Sunday in Week 8 against the Carolina Panthers.
Fitzpatrick replaced Jameis Winston during Tampa Bay's Week 7 game against the Cincinnati Bengals after the latter threw his fourth interception of the day. Fitzpatrick then brought the Bucs all the way back from an 18-point deficit, but the Bengals kicked a last-second field goal to win 37-34.
The journeyman quarterback began the year as the Buccaneers' starter while Winston served a three-game suspension, and became the first player in NFL history to throw for more than 400 yards in three straight games. Fitzpatrick also started Week 4 against the Chicago Bears, but was replaced during that contest by Winston, who kept the starting job after Tampa Bay's bye in Week 5.
Despite playing in just four games this season, Winston is tied for the NFL lead with 10 interceptions. He's completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 1,181 yards and six touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick's completed 68.1 percent of his passes for 1,550 yards, 13 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
