Kyrie Irving will soon be honored by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, of which the 26-year-old's lineage is traced back to.

The Boston Celtics point guard will be honored during a ceremony in North Dakota at the Prairie Knights Pavilion on Aug. 23.

"We could not be more excited," said chairman Mike Faith in an official release, according to MassLive.com's Fred Katz. "(Irving) has made us all very proud. To know that he has not forgotten his roots and is taking the time before he starts his basketball season to visit the People, his People, shows that Kyrie has great character and pride in his heritage."

Irving's late mother, Elizabeth Ann Larson, was adopted out of the tribe as a child, while his grandmother and great grandparents were all citizens.

The "N7" version of his Kyrie 4 basketball shoes feature the tribe's seal on the heel as a tribute to his mother, as well as to "reflect his pride in the Standing Rock Sioux community." The seal is also tattooed on the back of Irving's neck.
