What you need to know

Gerard, Parrot, McMorris headline big air final

Six of the 12 big air final competitors hail from the United States and Canada, and that alone should make for a terrific event. Slopestyle silver medallist Max Parrot and bronze recipient Mark McMorris will seek redemption against 17-year-old American Red Gerard, with fellow Canadian and Americans Sebastien Toutant, Kyle Mack, and Chris Corning also in play. New Zealand's Carlos Knight Garcia, who led all qualifiers with an incredible score of 97.50, is another one to watch.

Update: Canada's Toutant takes gold with Kyle Mack finding podium in 2nd spot

U.S. goes for unexpected gold in 1st-ever curling final

It might be uncharted territory, but for the first time in the country's Olympic history, the U.S. curling team has a chance for gold.

Skip John Shuster, who shot an unheard-of 98 percent against the Canadians en route to the final, leads his rink against Sweden. Regardless of the outcome, the U.S. will be taking home its first curling medal since 2006 after finishing in 9th and 10th place, respectively, in the past two Olympics.

Mass start speedskating

Both women's and men's mass start speed skating events will kick off on Friday. Split up into two start lists of 12 competitors, representing the U.S. in the women's final will be Heather Bergsman and Mia Maganello, as both athletes seek their second medal of PyeongChang 2018 after winning bronze in the team pursuit.

On the men's side, fellow Americans Joey Mantia and Brian Hansen will skate for their first medal since Vancouver 2010, going up against four-time gold medalist Sven Kramer of the Netherlands.
