Mackenzie Hughes is one shot off the lead after posting a three-under 67 at the Honda Classic on Thursday.

The 27-year-old stormed out of the gate with six birdies on the back nine, including four straight to begin the round. He closed out the first half of his round with a bogey, however, and went without a birdie over his final nine holes, with bogies on holes 14 and 18.

Hughes sits tied for third alongside Morgan Hoffmann, Justin Thomas, Daniel Berger, and Louis Oosthuizen. Alex Noren and Webb Simpson lead the field at 4-under.

The Canadian will tee off for Round 2 at 7:15 am ET alongside Cody Gribble and Billy Hurley III.
