USC's Lewis arrested on domestic battery charge

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

USC receiver Joseph Lewis was arrested Monday afternoon on a felony charge of domestic battery, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to ESPN's Kyle Bonagura.

Lewis is charged with corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant, which California law defines as the willful infliction of injury to an individual the perpetrator has or previously had a marriage, cohabitation, parenting, or dating relationship with, resulting in a traumatic condition - an injury caused by physical force.

While USC wouldn't confirm Lewis was under investigation, the school did say he'd been suspended from football activities.

"USC takes all reports of domestic abuse seriously and is cooperating fully with the law enforcement investigation," the statement noted.

Lewis was a highly touted recruit that was ranked as the best receiver in the country for the class of 2017. Despite that pedigree, he saw limited action in his first season on campus, catching only four passes.
