Rasual Butler, who played 13 seasons in the NBA for eight teams, died early Wednesday, the Miami Heat confirmed. His wife Leah LaBelle, a singer and former "American Idol" contestant, was also killed.
TMZ reports the couple was killed in a Los Angeles car accident.
Butler, a 38-year-old Philadelphia native, was selected by the Heat in the second round of the 2002 draft out of La Salle. He also spent time with New Orleans, the Clippers, the Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, and San Antonio Spurs.
Statistically, Butler's best season came in 2009-10 with the Clippers, but he was better known as a grinder who was able to fit various roles.
