Contreras stands by self-confidence, says comments were misinterpreted

Caylor Arnold-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras cleared up comments he made at the Cubs Convention over the weekend in which he confidently said he "know(s) that (he's) going to be better" than fellow All-Star catchers Buster Posey and Yadier Molina - with the latter firing back on Instagram on Wednesday.

While it's certainly not out of the question for Contreras to, someday, match the exceptional production of Molina and Posey, the 25-year-old has a long way to go until then. In his first full season behind the dish with the Cubs, Contreras hit .276/.356/.499 with 121 wRC+ and 3.2 WAR, finishing behind Posey in both categories.
