Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir is expected to miss four-to-five weeks after suffering a high ankle sprain in training camp, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Sunday that the team is labeling him as week-to-week.

"He's dealt with one before. It's gonna take some time - high ankles usually do. It's an opportunity for somebody else," McDermott said, according to Matt Parrino of syracuse.com.

Shakir's injury timeline puts his Week 1 status in jeopardy. The Bills open their season against the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 7.

Shakir injured his ankle during team drills at Friday's practice and was assessed by trainers before heading to the locker room.

The 25-year-old signed a four-year, $60.2-million extension in February that locks him up through the 2029 season. He led the team in targets (100), receptions (76), and receiving yards (821) last campaign.

Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, Curtis Samuel, Elijah Moore, and Laviska Shenault are other wide receivers on Buffalo's depth chart.

Shakir was selected in the fifth round of the 2022 draft out of Boise State. He has recorded 1,593 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 46 career games.
