The Houston Texans are releasing offensive lineman Shaq Mason, a source told KPRC2's Aaron Wilson.

Mason appeared in 32 games over two seasons with the Texans. He was flagged just three times in 2024 but allowed eight sacks, five quarterback hits, and 34 pressures, according to PFF.

The 31-year-old ranked 65th out of 135 eligible guards in overall PFF grade (62.3 rating), 52nd in pass-blocking (65.2), and 92nd in run-blocking (57.7).

Mason's release incurs a $12.5-million dead-cap hit while only freeing up $2.1 million in cap space for Houston, according to Over the Cap. However, a post-June 1 designation spreads the dead money over 2025 ($5.1 million) and 2026 ($7.4 million) and clears $9.4 million in cap space this year.

Mason, a 2015 fourth-rounder, has won two Super Bowls across 10 NFL seasons between the Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New England Patriots.
