It's looking more and more likely the NBA is moving away from the U.S. for its next expansion team. Not you, Canada.

The Association is reportedly aiming to have a G-League franchise in Mexico City as soon as next season, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times. As long as the move makes sense, the NBA will look to act quickly with the expansion.

League officials have prioritized the G-League, aiming to turn it into a fully-functional minor league for professionals, with commissioner Adam Silver pushing for several factors to improve play and popularity.

The aim is to ensure every NBA team has a G-League affiliate. The Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, and New Orleans Pelicans are the only outfits yet to have representation in the minor leagues.

The transition to a better-functioning G-League is already underway, as well-known NBA players - such as Tony Parker, Joakim Noah, and Kendrick Perkins - have spent time in the minors this season.
