The Chicago White Sox selected right-hander Shane Smith from the Milwaukee Brewers with the first pick in the 2024 Rule 5 Draft on Wednesday.

Smith recorded a 3.05 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 113 strikeouts across 94 1/3 innings split between AA and AAA in 2024.

Fifteen players were selected in the major-league phase of the draft. A team must have room on its 40-man roster to make a selection.

Players selected must be kept on the new team's active MLB roster for the 2025 season and can't be sent to the minors without clearing waivers and being offered back to their original team.
