McDavid: 'Not even a question' Crosby should captain Canada

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid didn't hesitate when asked who should captain Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February.

"Should be (Sidney Crosby). Should be Sid, for sure," McDavid told media Thursday, per TSN. "That's not even a question."

Crosby and McDavid were two of Canada's first six players announced for the tournament, along with Nathan MacKinnon, Brad Marchand, Brayden Point, and Cale Makar.

The two have never played together. Last year, Crosby said he'd be happy to move to wing for an opportunity to share a line with McDavid on the international stage.

McDavid hasn't suited up for Canada since the 2018 World Championship, where he was captain and won a gold medal. The five-time NHL scoring leader also led Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey - the most recent best-on-best event involving NHL players.

Crosby scored the golden goal for Canada at the 2010 Olympics and wore the "C" for his country at the 2014 Games, 2015 World Championship, and 2016 World Cup. Canada won all four of those tournaments.

The deadline for competing nations to announce the remainder of their rosters is Dec. 2.
