San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury, the team announced Wednesday, according to NBC Sports' Sheng Peng.

Celebrini was hurt when he collided with the boards following a scoring chance during the second period of Tuesday's preseason clash against Utah.

The 2024 first overall pick managed to get back to his feet without assistance, but he suited up for just one more shift before leaving the contest and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Celebrini then missed Wednesday's practice.

"He's been through a lot, right?" Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said, according to Peng. "He's (done the) rookie tournament, the travel. He's been bouncing around media stuff. ... It's more wear and tear and more precautionary than anything."

Celebrini recorded one goal and one assist in his preseason debut Sept. 22 against the Vegas Golden Knights. He logged two shots and two takeaways in just under 11 minutes of ice time before departing Tuesday's outing, per Natural Stat Trick.

The 18-year-old has brought plenty of excitement to San Jose after the team won the draft lottery in May. Celebrini won the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA's top men's hockey player after a dynamite freshman year at Boston University in which he scored 32 goals and 64 points in 38 games.

The Sharks open their regular season next Thursday against the St. Louis Blues.
