Rahm, Schauffele pace star-studded Olympic field entering final round

Jon Rahm joined defending gold medallist Xander Schauffele atop the Olympic leaderboard after Saturday's Round 3.

Rahm and Schauffele hold a one-stroke lead over Tommy Fleetwood. Schauffele is looking to become the first two-time gold medallist in Olympic golf.

Schauffele left a 23-foot birdie putt just short on No. 18 that would've given him the solo lead.

After leading through two rounds, Matsuyama dropped two shots out of the medal positions.

Hojgaard matched Le Golf National's course record with a 9-under 62 to move into the top five. His twin brother, Rasmus, shot a 62 at the course in 2022.

McIlroy carded his best round of the Olympics with a 5-under 66 to put him within striking distance of a medal.

World No. 1 Scheffler continues to lurk just outside the top five after shooting his second 4-under 67 of the tournament Saturday.

Corey Conners is the top Canadian in T-17th.

Matt Fitzpatrick withdrew from the competition after Round 3, citing a thumb injury. The world No. 22 followed up an 8-under 64 on Friday with a 10-over 81 on Saturday. He was T-53rd.
