Boston Red Sox owner John Henry said he isn't planning on selling the club anytime soon.

"My wife and I live and work in Boston," Henry told the Financial Times. "We are committed to the city, the region. So the Sox are not going to come up for sale. We generally don't sell assets."

Henry has owned the Red Sox since 2001. The club has won four World Series championships in that time, including breaking an 86-year drought in 2004.

However, the Red Sox have only qualified for the postseason once since winning their last World Series in 2018.

Henry has taken criticism from fans for the club's struggles over the past few seasons and his lack of regular public commentary about the state of the franchise.

"I don't think people in my position can win publicly," Henry said. "Your words are often used against you - so the less I say, I generally think the better."

The Red Sox haven't made as many splashy, high-priced acquisitions in free agency over the past few years, something fans have taken issue with. Boston currently has the 12th-highest payroll in baseball at just over $176 million.

"Fans expect championships almost annually," Henry said, "They easily become frustrated and are not going to buy into what the odds actually are: one in 20 or one in 30."
