San Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove is quickly becoming a fan of new closer Robert Suarez.

Suarez recorded five outs in Wednesday's win over the St. Louis Cardinals to earn his third save of the season. It's already his second appearance of more than three outs this year.

"Having a closer that you can go out there and rely on for more than just three outs is huge to us here," Musgrove said, according to reporter Annie Heilbrunn. "He's always willing to take the ball, and we're grateful for it."

Suarez has registered a 2.25 ERA with five strikeouts in four innings this season.

Josh Hader occupied the closer's role last season. He didn't make a single appearance of more than three outs across 61 games for the Padres in 2023. He joined the Houston Astros on a five-year, $95-million contract in the offseason.
