Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers wants to see the organization's front office do more to improve the roster before the 2024 regular season gets underway.

"They need to make an adjustment to help us players to be in a better position to win," the two-time All-Star said Tuesday through a translator, according to The Associated Press. "Everybody in this organization wants to win. We, as (players), want to win. I think they need to make an adjustment to help us win.

"I'm not saying that the team is not OK right now, but they need to be conscious of what are the (weaknesses) and what we need."

Devers' comments followed similar ones from veteran closer Kenley Jansen, who admitted he felt frustrated with the direction of the Red Sox after an underwhelming offseason under new chief baseball officer Craig Breslow.

Right-handed starter Lucas Giolito, outfielder Tyler O'Neill, infielder Vaughn Grissom, and injured reliever Liam Hendriks (who won't be available to pitch for most of the campaign) were Boston's biggest additions during an offseason in which they also traded Chris Sale and Alex Verdugo and let Justin Turner depart in free agency.

On paper, the 2024 Red Sox look similar to the squad from a season ago that finished last in the American League East with 78 wins. PECOTA projects an identical win total for Boston this year after the club did little to upgrade a pitching staff that finished 20th in FIP and 21st in ERA.

“Everybody knows what we need," Devers said. "You know what we need, and they know what we need. It's just there's some things that I can't say out loud. But everybody that knows the organization and knows the game knows what we need."
