Michael Malone agreed to a contract extension with the Denver Nuggets that'll make him one of the league's highest-paid coaches, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Malone's extension is for an additional two years on his current deal, tying him to the franchise through the 2026-27 season, a source told NBA reporter Mike Singer.

The veteran coach has held the position since 2015 and helped the Nuggets win their first NBA title in franchise history last season. Over nine campaigns in Denver, Malone has a 375-272 record.

The Nuggets have started this season hot, going 8-2 to lead the Western Conference.

Malone is the fourth-longest-tenured coach in the Association, behind Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs, Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, and Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors.

Before joining the Nuggets, Malone was the coach of the Sacramento Kings. He was fired 24 games into his second campaign with the franchise. He also spent over 10 years as an assistant, primarily with the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Malone's father, Brendan, was a head coach and longtime assistant, helping the Detroit Pistons win two championships in 1989 and 1990.
