The Orlando Magic are promoting former NBA guard Anthony Parker to general manager, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

Parker will take over from John Hammond, a longtime league executive who spent nine years as the Milwaukee Bucks' GM before joining the Magic in 2017. Hammond will transition into a senior advisory role.

Prior to the promotion, Parker was an assistant GM with the franchise. He will continue to work under president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman.

The Magic are also reportedly promoting associate GM Pete D'Alessandro to executive president of basketball operations.

Parker played nine seasons in the NBA, first suiting up for brief stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and Magic between 1997 and 2000. He went on to a decorated six-year career in Europe before returning to North America, where he started 423 of his 439 games in six seasons between the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers from 2006-12.

The Magic are in the midst of a slow climb in the Eastern Conference with a core of reigning Rookie of the Year Paolo Banchero, rising scorer Franz Wagner, and the No. 6 pick in June's draft, Anthony Black.
