The Pittsburgh Steelers traded for Washington Commanders cornerback William Jackson, the teams announced Tuesday.

The Commanders receive a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick in return for Jackson and a conditional 2025 seventh-rounder.

The veteran reportedly requested an exit from Washington several weeks ago due to a poor scheme fit.

Jackson signed a three-year, $40.5-million contract as a free agent in 2021 but struggled to live up to expectations. The 30-year-old spent the first five years of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Pittsburgh needed to upgrade a struggling secondary, which has given up the most passing touchdowns (17, tied with the Kansas City Chiefs) and the second-most passing yards (2,218) through eight weeks.
