Rising Barcelona star Gavi added another prestigious award to his collection after winning the 2022 Golden Boy award Friday.

"I want to thank Tuttosport," Gavi said, as translated by ESPN's Adriana Garcia. "I want to thank my family, who are there in the good and bad times.

"I want to thank Barca (and) my teammates as without them this wouldn't be possible. It's an honor for me to get this award that any young player desires."

The honor caps off an incredible week for the 18-year-old, who won the coveted Kopa Trophy as Europe's best young player at the Ballon d'Or ceremony Monday.

It's the second year in a row that the Golden Boy trophy - handed out by Italian newspaper Tuttosport to Europe's best player aged 21 or under - has gone to a Barcelona youngster. Pedri, 19, took home last season's award, becoming the first Barca player to win since Lionel Messi in 2005.

Gavi beat a talented crop of young stars, including Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham, Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, and Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala.

After breaking into Barcelona's first team in the summer of 2021, Gavi went on to feature in over 47 games in all competitions last season. He continues to be a regular for Barca boss Xavi in the current campaign.

Gavi also holds the record as the youngest player to be called up (17 years, 62 days) and play (17 years, 304 days) for the Spanish national team.

Karim Benzema of Real Madrid and Alexia Putellas of Barcelona were named winners of Tuttosport's Golden Players as the top men's and women's footballers, respectively.
